Tack Up (English Basics)
A beginner-friendly, step-by-step tack-up routine with instructor help.
Steps to Follow
Gather tack and place it neatly where your instructor says.
Nothing is on the ground to trip over.
Groom the saddle area and check for dirt that could rub.
Back looks clean.
Place the saddle pad slightly forward, then slide it into place.
Pad is smooth with no wrinkles.
With help, lift the saddle and set it gently on the pad.
Saddle placed quietly.
Attach the girth on one side, then walk around safely to attach the other side.
Girth is attached on both sides.
Tighten the girth slowly in steps and ask your instructor to check.
Instructor approved the fit.
Put on the bridle only with instructor help (keep fingers away from teeth).
Bridle is on correctly.
Check stirrups are even (ask for help setting length).
Stirrups even.
